Santiago Rodríguez Ruiz is a director and producer working for Zemia Media. His extensive education include a BA in Media, a BSc in Geography and a MSc in Physical Oceanography.
Bio
Santiago was born in June the 26th, 1978 in Donostia, in the Basque Country's Spanish part. However, he has been living in many places of Spain, such as Valladolid, León, Zamora and Valencia. He also had the opportunity to live abroad as an exchange student in Stockholm (Sweden) and as a Master student in Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Bergen (Norway).
Studies
Got a degree in Geography at the University of Valencia, a program where he paid a special focus on Physical Geography, with an interest in climatology and oceanography. During his years of study in Valencia he had the opportunity to take part in the exchange program Erasmus in Southern Stockholm University College, Södertörns Högskola.
He later went on developing his interest in Oceanography by following a Master Program in Oceanography and Limnology (part of the Biology program) at the University of Amsterdam, doing research on the relationship between water stratification and its effects and climate change, and on fjord water fluxes.
He later came back to Valencia to get a degree in Media Studies following the itinerary of specialization in "Audiovisual projects in digital environments".
As part of his activities during his time studying Geography, Santiago Rodriguez is still a member of the European Association for Students and Young Geographers (EGEA) entity in Valencia, and still takes part in congresses from time to time, both as a participants and as an organizers or Workshop leader. Lately he led a workshop on "Coastal geomorphology and human impact" in Castellon (Spain) in 2007 and another workshop entitled "Toponymy: Words on the Map" in Sinaia(Romania) in 2008.
Professional life
Following his will to devote his life to science documentary making, his main jobs have been in the development of scripts for short earth science documentaries. Together with Marcos Rodriguez and Salvador Alonso, in the summer of 2008, he founded Zemia Media SL for being able to produce his own programs.
He was a very active part of the first production of Zemia Media, a travel documentary in Ukraine, with the help of Nataliia Maiboroda. In this he had to be director and videographer at the same time.
Personal Information
With a great interest in languages, Santiago has been learning his whole life to now be able to speak Spanish, Catalan, English, Swedish and Italian. He has some knowledge of Dutch, Basque and Bulgarian as well. He's got a passion for travel that has made him come to most countries in Europe.
He enjoys playing music and listening to folk celtic, classical, rock and blues music, and watching sports could also be counted in among his hobbies, being ice hockey and baseball his favourites.
